When given the opportunity for an adventure and education, I found beautiful Cape Town, South Africa fall right into my lap- and I couldn't be more excited. Cape Town has everything I want to discover- a rich culture, beautiful places to visit, incredible weather, delicious food and super interesting people.
These next 5 months are going to push me to places that I have never experienced thus far in my life. I will surely see things that will change my perception of my world as I know it, meet people who make me a better person, learn every single day and be surrounded by unimaginable beauty.
I have always had this fascination with deep, profound human connection, just people in their truest sense and their relationship to themselves and their own way of life. I am humbled by people's idiosyncracies and how that keeps them alive in their own ways. Some people are old at 18 and young at 90, it seems that time is a concept that humans have created.
Because of this fascination with the human component, and more specifically people's health and aging, this reserach blog was born.
the what:
My goal is to document health and aging by analyzing how environment, lifestyle and culture can affect—both physically and mentally—our total health and well being in our day to day lives and through the life course.
I am aiming to educate those on the connection of population health and what it is like to live and age in Cape Town and I want to use this unique opportunity to undercover all aspects of health there. I will educate both academically, as well as through my contextualized daily experiences, to be informing the questions that I am hoping to undercover.
This project has many fold objectives. In addition to research and learning incredible information about health and aging, I will also be developing skillsets that will help me later on in my life. I hope to expand my ability to communicate through my writing skills, produce and integrate videos and photos into my blog in order to facilitate a visual experience, to accurately take complex information and distill it down for all people to be able to understand and to take ownership of a unique and special project while immersing myself in this dynamic, beautiful city.
